What is being done if children argue?

Minor conflicts inevitably arise and belong to everyday kindergarten life. Children should learn to solve their conflicts independently, without adult intervention. I try to stay out of a conflict for as long as possible, but I do assist as a mediator. It is quite interesting to observe the interaction among children, older ones often act as peacemakers.

What is your daily routine ?

Our daily programme is interspersed with various activities. Children are given the chance to chose activities for themselves. At other times, I conduct concentration exercises with active teacher input. It is important to have a balance between phases of physical exercise and quiet time.

Do you punish children?

If children break something, they are asked to repair the damage. If they injure others, we assist them in self-reflection. It is important to discuss such behaviour with the children and to teach them how to solve conflicts verbally in a non-violent way, with non-violent means.

Do you conduct outdoor activities in bad wheather?

Bad wheather? Children love rain, wind, snow and slush! We take care that our children are appropriately dressed for whatever weather conditions, but do enjoy nature in every kind of wheather!

Do you allow sick children to be dropped off by parents?

Children with a cold are usually admitted to class. At this age, they build up resistance which strengthens the immune system. We teach children how to take precaution in order to prevent infections. (Don’t share food with others. Blow your nose more often. Wash hands after using the lavatory. etc.) Children with temperature or serious illness have to stay at home. If a child grows ill during the day, it will be taken care of by our doctor.

Do you notice any possible disabilities/unusual behabiour in children?

Special attention is paid to the behaviour and performance of each child. Due to my longterm child care experience, I have a trained eye to detect possible irregularities in a child’s behaviour or performance. In case of a potential disorder, the matter will be discussed with the parents. After professional consultation with our doctor/psychologist, solutions will be provided.
